SITE NEWS

You may have noticed adverts have started to appear on site. The time has come to upgrade the site from a ‘personal blog’ to what WordPress call a ‘business blog’ which is a bit over the top. However the personal paid for blog which runs out at £85/$99 a year has now reached its capacity in image storage. Upgrading to the next level provides the following:

  1. Unlimited image, video storage, and bandwidth. This is important as this blog, due to the nature of the way things are published has very high bandwidth peaks twice a day three days a week.  It also has run out of photo and image storage space. The only way to reduce that would be delete old reviews. That’s not acceptable as older reviews are 30% of the site’s traffic.
  2. I need improved SEO (search engine optimisation), and Google Analytics to see what is and, isn’t working on the site as a whole. I do get key stats, and I know what people are looking at, and  how many, as well as where from,  but external website analysers mis-report WordPress based sites because of the platform, and the https shield. The analysers are only able to see stats from one particular viewpoint, it doesn’t give a holistic 360 degree view, but full WordPress/GA SEO would.
  3. The cost of this as a full package is still pretty low, and I could just pay for it and forget about it. £220/$260 a year isn’t very much in the great scheme of things to me, because I’m fortunate enough to be able to do it. However allowing WordAds will contribute about half of that across 12 months, and in principle, I strongly feel that the blog should now support itself, especially as it’s capable of doing so.
  4. This site is not, and never has been about making money, it will not advertise or be sponsored by anyone of the manufacturers or retailers They will never have a say in how it’s run or what is said. It must however, pay it’s own way now as a matter of principle. IF it does not make sufficient ad-revenue by May 2017, at the end of two quarter years ads results, a voluntary donations system will be introduced. Frankly I doubt ads will be enough, but if you click on them, and ignore them straight after, that’s money supporting the site!

I hope everyone understands. The site will continue regardless, and I appreciate every single one of you who comes here and reads it. The number of unique visitors has rocketed this year, well beyond any expectations I had. November alone had three record busting days, December has already had one, and the end of year always tends to set new records. Every month other than February (three days short) and May (while I was on vacation and don’t post for two weeks), has shown astonishing increases in readership.  A full report will be issued in early January.

To give you a scale of how things have changed since 2014: more Unique Visitors come to the site in an hour than came to the site in all of December 2014. More pages are viewed in one day than in the last six months of 2014.

HOLIDAY SEASON SCHEDULE

With the 2016 holiday season just around the corner these are the schedules for the period that cover 1:400Reviews publishing dates.

MONDAY 19th DECEMBER – Review Published

TUESDAY 20TH DECEMBER – FINAL DAY FOR MOTY ENTRANTS – anything that hasn’t arrived by now will not be part of 2016’s  awards.

WEDNESDAY 21ST DECEMBER – final Review Published for 2016

There are no Publications On Friday 23rd December to Thursday 29th December, I’ll be in San Francisco until January 3rd.

FRIDAY 30th December – BRAND AND MODEL OF THE YEAR AWARDS PUBLISHED at 1300hrs GMT/0300hrs Pacific/0800hrs East coast/1400hrs CET, 1800hrs Delhi, 20-2300hrs Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

WEDNESDAY 4TH JANUARY – NORMAL PUBLICATIONS RESUME. 

I will continue to update the Facebook page, if anything happens but it’s a quiet news time.

  1. Have you rated using instagram to reach more audiences? . As you surely know, there are many people who upload their photos of dioramas and planes to this social network.

    1. I have gotten involved with instagram, but I have a personal twitter with 11000 followers, a 1400reviews twitter, plus the Facebook 1400Reviews page, and the blog. Instagram is just another ‘thing’ to do and maintain. Frankly it just takes up too much time to add another social networking platform. I get around 10 fresh conversations a day on Facebook messenger, 8 groups to visit, stacks of comments, likes, responses, and I enjoy it all but there’s only so much I can give in a day!
