New CGI of Heathrow Airport Expansion – Vital for Britain

In full disclosure, I have always been absolutely in favour of High Speed Rail 2 (HS2) that links London to Birmingham (passing very close to me but I don’t care), and eventually Manchester, and a third runway/expansion at Heathrow Airport. Britain needs it, those who live near it in the expensive upper class suburbs will just have to take one for the country and stop putting themselves first.

The latest CGI images from Heathrow show the new and vastly expanded terminal West of current T5, the new runway from several angles and some of the construction proposals. It looks amazing, something the whole country can be proud of.

The third runway to the North West (left in this image which faces due East towards London). You can see the new terminal in front of T5 and the new business park in front of that. Note how the M25 orbital goes under the third runway.
This shows the two current parallels and runway three from South to North. From the left you can see the new business park, the T5 expansion, T5, T5A. T5B, parking, T5C, T2C, T2, T2A, T2B, parking and maintenance hangars. The T4 terminal at the bottom right will be shut down and converted to cargo. Terminals will loose their numbers, becoming The Queens Terminal (now T2) and T5 will be renamed. The new runway will also have a Northern terminal in parallel. British Airways HQ will be right on the edge of runway 3 jammed between the M4/M25 where it is now.

Now all we need is for the cowardly government to give it the go ahead. I’d say it’s a 40-60 against and they’ll chicken out and do what nobody thinks is sensible and give it to Gatwick where it will be promptly wasted.
