Air France A320-211 F-GFKS SkyTeam JC Wings XX4401 1:400 2012 release
The one serious omission from the current collection is a decent model in the SkyTeam livery. There aren’t that many and they tend to be larger aircraft. With Terminal 2 East dealing with SkyTeam and StarAlliance the number of large aircraft available for display is much higher than Terminal 1 West which has Oneworld and Virgin Atlantic. Some of you’ll be horrified to know that Delta doesn’t really exist in ‘RLSI world’ – only one aircraft an MD85; I much prefer the Northwest livery and they still fly here! That apart, there are three Oneworld fully liveried aircraft, a current StarAlliance livery Austrian 737-800w and now at last this.
The model is in a dual box version for the Saudia issue of the same model (Saudia is XX4400 on the Wings900 database, which is wrong. The model code for the Air France version is XX4401).
The aircraft is a 1991 aircraft and was delivered to AF in the middle of the 1991-92 recession so went off to Vietnam Airlines until 1994. She suffered an unconfined No.2 engine failure in May 2002 which damaged the wing and fuselage very badly, but she wasn’t written off at the time. Repaired by October 2002 and returned to service until being scraped at 22 years old in 2013.
I have to say this is one gem of a JC Wings model, the print is excellent, the metallic silver-gold (sometimes referred to as ‘sable d’or’), is really good, with the right level of iridescence and has a superb quality finish to it. The logo and colours all look really excellent with no colour bleed.
Wings and Underbody
Sadly this is a cradle wings job. It’s the one downside to the model. They are though fitted tightly, gap free and pretty much as they should be. The paint quality on this model is first class and the wings are no exception, all the way down to the evacuation markings. In fact some of the best smaller model paint jobs I’ve ever seen.
Engines and pylons
The moulds on these CFM56 are very good. The colour is excellent, even the pylon paint is perfect. The intake silver is also subtle and well applied, exceptionally neat. The exhaust paint is good too, with a nice titanium colour used. Even the wording is printed neatly to be no cause for complaint. This is one excellent model I’m feeling!
Nose and tail detail
The nose is excellent, all the way down to a different colour for the radome. Incredibly well produced and a first class effort all round. The tail is superbly done, with the correct colouring and a really good finish to the entire livery.
And out of 10…
It’s a very good model. The cradle is the downside but it’s been brilliantly executed. In terms of accuracy, acceptability, overall quality, this has to score 9.9/10. It’s really excellent, amazingly so. JC Wings can be so hit and miss (lets not talk Qatar A380), but this is one superb model and not only was it something I really wanted, to add to the good feeling, it’s something I really wanted and it’s really good! Worth all of its £20/$28US.
