Now this is the first time I’ve ever wanted a whole group of AeroClassics models. This company has a long record of mistakes and errors that many in the collecting community have pointed out and there have been serious words in several forums between the company and its commentators. Frankly, I have never gotten involved but see both sides of the coin, having had some very good models and one or two really bad ones. Mostly it’s down to colour – a Lufthansa Express 737 I have is so wrong it’s a travesty, but an Air Greenland A330 is a gem, as is a 1984 Dan Air 732, however their version of the Virgin Little Red A320 was also, well not exactly brilliant. Their models are expensive, but they are sought after none the less.
The Aeroclassics A320 I have had in the past and the NYC Fire department red jetBlue I shall give a miss. I struggled between the “new” Eastern Airlines 737-800W N276EA and the Southwest 737-700 N708SW in the new livery. The Qantas retro, Continental and Transat 737’s just don’t fit my collecting parameters. (SW and Eastern can just make Trans-Atlantic, so just fall into passable and anything that flies into or out of SFO is always an exception). In the end it has to be the Southwest, that mould is far better than Gemini’s hammer nosed disaster and it looks pretty spot on. UK prices are £32 pre-discount and around £27 after ($43USD). Available from airspotters.com and other retailers.
